At Mayo Clinic in Rochester, the first shipment of vaccines developed in the fight against COVID-19 arrived. A team was on hand as 2,925 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine were delivered. The first shipment of vaccines arrived in three “pizza boxes” of 975 doses each at a temperature between -80°C and 60°C (-112°F to -76°F) in a thermal shipping container with dry ice and then were quickly transported to an ultracold freezer for safe storage.

The first Mayo Clinic employees in Rochester will receive the COVID-19 vaccinations Friday morning, Dec. 18.

For the safety of its patients, staff and visitors, Mayo Clinic has strict masking policies in place. Anyone shown without a mask was recorded prior to COVID-19 or recorded in an area not designated for patient care, where social distancing and other safety protocols were followed.
